Sometimes everything just comes together: the air is crisp but not too cold, the afternoon sunlight is just the right strength and colour, the leaves crackle underfoot and the location kicks arse. Add to all this a really lovely family at the top of their game. It's magic!
Ana, Kev and their two wee monkeys, Ethan and Rory, came to meet me at the beautiful ruins of Sopwell Nunnery in St Albans on Saturday. They'd arrived before me and the boys were throwing the new wooden airplanes their papa had made for them (come on, hands up who wants one - even now??). We started with hide and seek...
"OK... Mummy and Daddy will count. You guys hide and... er.... I'll take pictures of you hiding, ok?"
"OK!"
(God love the under 5s)
I don't know what Ana and Kev had given their pair before the shoot but they were preternaturally cooperative, unfailingly happy and up for everything I suggested with no cajoling required. It was completely amazing! Endless opportunities and everyone looking in the same direction and laughing whenever required (btw this practically never happens, esp with young kids in the mix). I swear, if I could bottle Saturday I'd make a million by Christmas.
I always love shooting with these guys - they're an absolute blast. And so without further ado, here are some of my faves...
